Significant amounts of fentanyl, cocaine, and U.S. currency were seized in the multi-day operation.
The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) partnered with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in California to successfully carry out a major narcotics bust in Northern California. Approximately 2.5 kilograms of fentanyl, 6 ounces of cocaine, over 15,000 counterfeit fentanyl pills, as well as over $100,000 in bulk U.S. currency, were seized during the multi-day operation that was part of the Bureau of Land Management’s effort to combat drug trafficking on public lands.
The bust comes after investigative efforts in March led to a major supply source of fentanyl distribution in California. Agencies that partnered with the Interior Department included the Homeland Security Task Force, the Shasta County Interagency Narcotics Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the California Department of Justice.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum stated the president’s administration “will not tolerate criminal organizations exploiting our nation’s public lands to traffic deadly narcotics. This successful operation is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our law enforcement officers and our partners across all levels of government who are working tirelessly to eradicate the fentanyl crisis and keep our communities safe.”
